Last year, around six months ago, in September 2023, Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), launched Conversational Payments on UPI during the Global Fintech Fest 2023. This enables users to make voice-enabled UPI payments via UPI applications, telecom calls, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

As the term suggests, it refers to a cutting-edge and innovative financial technology that enables users to do transactions using their own voice. UPI, a real-time payment system forms the backbone of this innovation.

This advanced tech leverages advanced voice recognition technology to accurately interpret and execute user commands. When a user issues a voice command to make a payment, the system verifies the user’s identity using biometric authentication or other security and safety measures.

Once authenticated and confirmed, the payment is processed within no time.
